You know you’re in nursing school when everyone is insanely jealous of the guy that gets to do the catheter.
And he comes out super excited and tells you the details the whole ride home.
This week I am: dealing with a cold, praying I didn’t just fail my catheter return, studying for more return stuff this afternoon, and cramming for my stupid theory test.
This week I’m not: going to India
Guys, this is my life.
- Study all day in the library with Audrey.
- Come back to the dorm to study because the loud girls in the library were making it impossible.
- Study for an hour.
- Get a text from Audrey that says, “Parietal Lobe. Go.”
- At which point we proceeded to have a review session via text message.
- It’s official.
- Nursing school is our lives.
I haven’t been able to watch the new Once Upon a Time.
It’s killing me.
I’m sitting in the library waiting for a friend. To study for a test. And all I want to do is run back to my room, change into sweat pants, curl up under my covers, and watch me some Prince Charming.
But I have to study.
Because it’s crazy week here.
- Me
- Library
- The Civil Wars
- Animal Crackers
- Taylor’s Fundamentals of Nursing
So I just ordered a bikini.
Probably not a big deal to most of y’all, but I don’t wear bikinis.
Well, except for one time when I was with all girls with no boys in sight.
But now, I have to wear one every Friday in my physical assessment class. (With shorts, though. Thank goodness for at least that.)
I found this out today. I have to have one for next class.
There are no alternatives.
It’s the middle of winter. So I had to order it online. I’m praying it fits and is halfway decent. (Although, considering even sports bras have “too much material,” I don’t think that that’s the #1 priority for the teachers.)
Pretty sure half the girls in class are starting crash diets and crazy exercising.
Again, I ask myself, what am I getting into?
That awkward moment when you open up your textbook to see full picture step-by-step instructions on how to do catheterizations
It happens every time.
What am I getting myself into?
So I survived my first day of nursing school
- I’ll be in school from 8-4:30 Tuesdays and Thursdays
- In the same room
- With the same people
- And then Wednesdays from 1:00-4:30
- And Fridays from 8:00-1:00
- In the same room with the same people
- It’s like. Not college.
- But I have a feeling it will be harder than normal college.
- And more awkward than normal college.
- And cooler than normal college.
- So tomorrow we spend all day learning how to do hands-on stuff.
- Should be pretty awesome.
- If I don’t miss it all.
- Turns out 2 people in our class came up with positive TB skin tests
- Me.
- And the 1 lady from the Philippines.
- Turns out the locals here are not typically exposed to tuberculosis.
- Who knew?
- So I have to miss part of the first serious day to go get bloodwork done to make sure I’m ok.
- (I’m ok)
- blech.
- Hopefully it won’t take too long.
- Because that would stink to get behind at the beginning.
- But I’m excited.
- Even if I have to carry a 1700+ page book with me every day.
- And drive 30-45 minutes for clinicals 2 days a week.
- Definitely a new chapter.
